This book presents research findings concerning the effects of globalization on social cohesion in Sri Lanka. The research was conducted in connection with a project of the Institute of Asian Research (IAR) at the University of British Columbia, entitled 'Comparative International Studies of Social Cohesion and Globalization'. Supported by a strategic grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the project focused on research and knowledge-building on issues of globalization and social cohesion in five countries of Asia, namely China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Sri Lanka. This volume on Sri Lanka has been prepared under the direction of Professor Barrie Morrison of IAR and Dr S.H. Hasbullah of the University of Peradeniya. The context for this important work can be understood by reference to the broader dimensions of studies of globalization and social cohesion.
